It is a kind of internal motivation to push students studies. Teachers need to try every way to attract students to the teaching activities and make the students experience that English-learning is a kind of interest. That will help to stimulate the enthusiasm and motivation of students and improve the teaching quality. The author firstly describes the current teaching and learning situation and points out the problem.Second, the author emphasizes the importance of interest in English learning and teaching.Then, the author puts forward the detailed method about how to improve students interest in English teaching . Finally, the author draws a conclusion to express that only if students interest in English-learning improved can students ability of English-learning enhance, which will makes the teaching vivid, impressive and easy. Key words: cultivation, English teaching, interestI. IntroductionInterest is very important in learning English and is also an effective motivation to learn English. It can push people forward to learn actively. So it surely is a crucial element which can influence ones attitudes, motivate ones potential and keep one's perseverance.In order to have an effective English lesson which is beneficial and interesting, first of all, an English teacher should learn students learning psychology and motives, and then use some advanced and effective techniques to teach English in classroom according to previous study. To some extent, the most effective method to make English teaching and learning smooth and successful is to arouse students interest in English.(Celce-Murcia, 1988) 1 Just as Einstein once said “Interest is the best teacher.” It is to say that interest is a direct motivating element to push forward students learning which means that interest plays an indispensable role in English learning. Comparatively speaking, learning English is rather dull, especially to study so many new words and a large amount of vocabulary. In this result, a number of students become afraid of it. Therefore, it is teachers obligation to encourage them to learn English and teachers should spare no effort to motivate the students' interest. II. Present English Teaching and Learning Situation2.1 Present English Teaching SituationIn China, to a large extent, English teaching is always dominated by the teachers, English practices are mostly text-oriented, and attention is scarcely paid to training students interest in learning English. The traditional teaching methods are primarily referred to as didactics which is a kind of teaching methodology in which the main task of a teacher is to deliver a lecture literally or teach the linguistic knowledge, and meanwhile the main task of students is just to listen and take down notes.(Ye Jianping, 2006)3 However, they only accept the knowledge in a passive way which is given by the teacher, instead of themselves who should be active to understand, learn, remember and apply the knowledge. In this way, didactics is actually nonsense for the students to study well and learn real knowledge, and shouldn't be frequently applied in English teaching. 2.2 Present English Learning SituationIn a classroom, it is the usual situation that most students keep silent and play a role as audience. Whats more, they seldom speak English or put up their hands to answer the teachers questions voluntarily, let alone some even fall asleep. It seems that they are attaching little importance to English learning and lacking interest in English class. There are obliviously two primary reasons for this situation of non-participation: one is that many students have just lost their interest in learning English, and the other one is that some students even have lost their hope in learning English due to their poor rudimentary knowledge.(韦清惠, 2007) 6III. The Importance of Interest in Learning EnglishAccording to the present criteria on curriculum of English, English teaching should be promulgated and put into practice in order to speed up students comprehensive ability in a harmonious way. Students interest is one of the most important elements influencing their success or failure in learning a language, because it is a kind of inner motivation that drives students to pursue a course of behavior. Teachers should motivate students desire for learning knowledge so as to arouse their interest in learning English.Students can get some knowledge only having interest in it. The students in country middle school are not interested in English. Most of them think it useless unless they will go to higher schools. So I pay more attention to the training of the students. Of course, we may use many kinds of ways to increase students interest: playing English games; telling English stories; to guess riddles; etc. All these activities will play a very important role in the training steps.IV. Detailed Methods to Motivate Students Interest in EnglishIn order to arouse students interest in English, English teachers should adopt advance and effective teaching methods as much as they can, develop and encourage students' potential in learning English pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary, which are the three basic language elements, and also the foundation of the four language skills including listening, speaking, reading and writing.  4.1 Build a Harmonious Relationship between Teachers and StudentsAs an old Chinese saying goes, if only the students are closed to teacher, they would love the teachers lesson. (Davies P, 2002) 4 In other words, when the students like and hold a positive attitude toward the teacher, they would love the subject taught by the teacher. Therefore, in order to carry out smooth teaching and learning, teachers should establish a harmonious relationship between them and the students. It is the basis of a good relationship between teachers and students that teachers should love and respect students. As Chairman Mao once said, gifts of people are like sparks, and they can put out, at the same time, they can burn up, as is the case with encouragement which can kindle students to get better achievements. Teachers love and understandings will encourage students to study hard and make progress. This is also their responsibility. Teachers behaviors have a long-lasting influence on students minds. As the proverb says, Love me, love my dog, so to some extent, the teachers' love of students will be transferred to the students' love of English learning. 4.2 Help Students Establish Confidence It is widely accepted that everything depends on one's own attitude and determination and that practice makes perfect. (扈中平, 2008) 7 As a teacher, some techniques are to be needed. They should have a wide range of the profound academic knowledge. in teaching, they should gain a sense of humor which can make the lesson smooth and active, for usually students prefer humorous teachers and are more likely to be attracted by this kind of charisma. The classroom teaching is not enough for students, and more practice is needed both in and out of class in English learning. English has its special characteristics, and teachers should make the fullest use of the features to arouse the students interest and motivation. I. The second classroom practice is different from the instruction in class, and it is a platform for students to give free rein to their imagination and creativity. It is as important as the classroom teaching.It is well-known that confidence can make one successful. Similarly, if students have confidence, they will be successful in English learning. More confidence and firm determination are needed. Once students have confidence, they can overcome a lot of difficulties they may face, and devote themselves to learning.(任秀珍, 2006) 10To praise the students rather than to criticize them will get surprising harvest. Praise could help students become confident. So, teacher should give more encouragement and praise to students instead of some harsh and cold words. . In most situations, their confidence is easy to get hurt and their activities are usually confined in a limited scope. Furthermore, encouragement will ease the tense atmosphere in the class. Even though students made some mistakes, the teachers should encourage and help them to build their confidence. 4.3 Arrange Effective LessonsAt school, students tend to rely on the teacher to lead them to learn English well. So, teacher should organize effective English class and make some innovation based on students different English level, individual character, and interest and comprehension ability.4.3.1 Make Profound PreparationThe first thing a teacher needs to do is to prepare his or her work to be effective. It is beyond doubt that teachers should prepare their lessons profoundly. A good preparation work is based on the teaching material as well as knowing students well. As a teacher, it is necessary to learn the teaching materials thoroughly and understand the students who are going to attend the class. Furthermore, to give the students a sound introduction of the background relevant to the objectives of the lesson will help them to get ready for the class both linguistically and psychologically. This procedure will encourage the students to be active to learn what they want to know in the following class time. 4.3.2 Create an Interesting English EnvironmentSince every class is distinct, teachers should creatively come up with the teaching procedure and it is not wise to apply only one procedure too strictly.( JoMcDonough, 2000) 2 Instead, a teacher should manage various activities according to the needs and interest of the students. To begin with, it will help the students concentrate their attention. Then, the various activities will help them develop their receptive and productive abilities and apply the language in real situations. It can not only arouse students interest but also make them practice oral English in a relaxed way. In addition, because English is a foreign language, so students have rare chance to hear and speak it beyond English class. As far as the English learning at school is concerned, most students tend to rely on their teachers to learn English. But language learning can not go without a language environment. In this regard, during the class, teachers should build English-learning atmosphere, which can help students to learn English actively and efficiently. 4.4 Design Diversified HomeworkIt is indispensable for the teacher to set a goal a little exceeding a students current competence, in this way most of the students can keep progress.(Lu Yun, 2004) 5 Their estimation of the tasks value assigned to them and the chances of success are clearly vital components of their motivation. So the teacher should increase the frequency of giving feedback and adjust the level and the contents of the task so as to make the majority of the students gain a sense of achievement in the language learning Moreover, teachers also can offer several forms of homework at different level to according to different students ability. Thus, each student can make a free choose according to their individual condition and teachers should encourage them to finish the homework as much as possible at the same time. In this way, homework can not only help the students to review the knowledge that learnt in class, but also motivate their interest in English.4.5 Cultivate Students to Form Good Habits As the proverb goes, “Habit is the second nature".(关鸿羽, 2006) 9 It is without doubt that a good habit of studying English is very important and necessary. A good habit is absolutely not formed immediately. In a class, teachers should remind students of forming good habits. At very first time, some teachers may not be aware of the significance of good habits, but after a period of time, they will realize that and help students to cultivate the habits gradually. It is true that he who tries his best to learn English well has his own good habits of learning English, such as learning actively and earnestly, being able to find problems, and being positive in thinking and answering teachers questions. Finally, they can form habits of thinking indecently like using reference books so as to get good achievements in the end. V. ConclusionGenerally speaking, interest is a great auxiliary in English teaching and learning. It is worth the trouble to arouse students interest in English learning. This thesis only talks some superficial ways to improve students interest in English learning. An English teacher should study assiduously and prepare lessons carefully. Furthermore he should design elaborately and be bold in practice. An English teacher, who is unwilling to study assiduously and prepare the lesson carefully, will never have good teaching method. So far, the usage of songs, and learner-centered activities are clarified. The advantages and some key points are explained. It is now more apparent that the teaching of pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar can be supported effectively by using such resources.
