This old granny is moving toward her old age. When Lessing gets older and older, the style of her novel creation returns to realism. Love, again was written when Lessing was 76. In the book, the writer tried to mold a 65-year-old woman who is still full of the mature quality including beautiful appearance, wisdom, graceful, demeanor, nous and so on. With exquisite and vivid language, the writer carefully describs the love entanglement and the desire for love of this charming leading character. Its a reflection of the old females innermost feelings .It tells a fact that old women still long for love. At the same time, it is a praise song for the old woman. Introduction Doris Lessing was born in1919, in Kermanshah, Persia (now Iran). Her father is a famer. In 1939 she married Frank Charles Wisdom, and dissolved in 1943. Then in 1945 she married Gottfried Anton Nicholas Lessing, and dissolved in 1949. And she has 3 children named John (first marriage, deceased), Jean (second marriage), Peter. She has worked as a nursemaid, a lawyers secretary, a hansard typist. And she worked as a Parliamentary Commissioners typist while living in Southern Rhodesia, from the year 1924 to 1949. Her reward: As a woman writer, she got many rewards for her great achievement. In 1971, she won the Booker McConnell Prize for her five short novels. And she earned the award Prix Medici for her work being translated into French in 1976. In 1981 The Golden notebook made her win the Australia State Prize for European Literature. In 1982, she won the German Federal Republic Shakespeare Prize. For The Sirian Experiments, she got W. H. Smith Literary Award. And in 1986, she got the Palermo Prize. In 1989, for The Fifth Child, she got the honorary degree, Princeton University. In 1989, she also got the honorary degree of Harvard University. And for her life's work she got David Cohen British Literary Prize, in 2001. She was awarded Asturias Prize for literature, Prince of Asturias Foundation, in 2001.And later, she won Nobel Prize for Literature in 2007,when she was 89 years old. Lessings early life was turbulent. She was mostly influenced by her father. And her mother hoped to educate her into a virtuous young woman. But she strongly disliked this idea. Instead of following the way his parents hoped her to go, she enjoyed her own living style. She has her own desire for love and her own living standard. She divorced two times, but she is still optimistic to love.Doris Lessings career is novelist, short story writer, and essayist. From the mid-twentieth century, she is considered as one of the most important writers of the modern postwar era. Because she always travels around the world, she knew well in geographical, social, political, psychological, and literary terms. Also because of that, her writings were influenced by her experiences greatly. It is not easy to understand why Doris Lessing became such a formidable presence among contemporary novelists. She is often a clumsy writer. Her early novels and stories, despite their exotic setting in Southern Rhodesia, were conventional accounts of growing up in a racist society, and rebelling against the constrictions of family and class.( Pearl K. Bell, 1985:47-50) When Love, again was firstly published, she was already 76 years old. During this time, she has gone through too much, and she has more deep thought about the life, love pursue. In this period, as an old woman, she cared more about the real life. Before this time, she has already reached very high achievement. So for her, the problem of this time is how to enjoy a better life when her old age came nearer. Love, Again mainly tells the story about a 65-year-old woman who falls in love and struggles to maintain her sanity. Widowed for many years, with grown children, Sarah is a writer who works in the theater in London. During the production of a play, she falls in love with a seductive young actor, the beautiful and androgynous 28-year-old Bill, and then with the more mature 35-year-old director Henry. Finding herself in a state of longing and desire that she had thought was the province of younger women, Sarah is compelled to explore and examine her own personal history of love, from her earliest childhood desires to her most recent obsessions. The result is a brilliant anatomy of love from a master of human psychology who remains as one of the most daring writers of fiction at work today.In the work love, again, the heroine is a special woman who is vivid and real .Her living style is totally different. As an old aged woman, she is still attractive for her nous and wisdom. She likes logical thinking and careful calculating. And she is good at foreseeing. With those precious aspects, she is a successful woman in other peoples eyes. Lessing described such a successful woman to us. In the work, Lessing used splendid dialogues and psychological description and environment portray to mold the heroine. Lessing wants us to know that the heroine is real and she is just among us. The writer shows us a wise woman in her own special way. The writer write like this. And it can arouse our reader's strong feelings to the heroine. We can sing and dance together with her. We feel happy when the heroine is happy .And we can also feel sad when she is sad.This paper intends to do some analysis on the heroine. Although she is no longer young, she is still full of hope. She is still strongly longing for love, though she already marched into the old age. Though she is older now, her graceful bearing still saves. She is just like a chrysanthemum which is blooming alone. From the book, we may see Sarah was still an attractive woman whose stature was exquisite. The other people often suppose she is just 40 years old. Compared with women in the same age, she is self-confidence and reasonable. Her husband's death left her to experience a sad period. But afterward, she went through. And then she stood up. And She walked with incomparably graceful steps to move toward the old age. And in her heart, getting older is the rule of everyones life. The old age is not fearful. Senile is also not such a terror what all people thought as. She may summarize the life optimistic to an old woman. Obviously, we called that Sarah was a granny, only for her old age. Her point of view is not old, so was her semblance. However, in her viewpoint, love was quite implicit. She tells that she has not experienced love for 20 years. She even believes that she would not fell deeply in love. She remains as a widow for those many years. Though in her innermost, she is still anxious for love. As an old woman, she never doubt a lot. She has her own desire, her own feeling for being old. May the other old woman may think : if they are old, they will possibly lost a lot. They may never wear make up themselves. They may be afraid of wearing colorful clothes. They will be shy when facing love. Most of them must will avoid talking and thinking about love. But Sarah will do all this. She knows she is no longer young. But she thinks she has the right to live a better old life. She is active in her old age.2.1.2 Her brave heart when facing the disaster The war financial problem occurring, and her husband died, which are all huge tribulation to her. In order to provide for the child and maintain her own life, she had to become a strong female. Day and night, she writes for the newspaper, works in the publishing house, works for the theatrical troupe, and also works as an extremely low free-lance writer. We may say that the life was not easy when she was young. However, she was always living stubbornly.Stephen was Sarahs good friend. She cares much on him. Stephen is also another writer of this play. In Sarah's view, the friendship is also a very important aspect. This is also an onus manifestation of Sarah. She paid much attention on her friend Stephen. She communicated with him, and supported him mutually. Stephen's love view compared with Saras was long lasting though frail. Stephen was infatuated with Julie Varian when he started to create this play. Therefore, he then infatuated with the leading lady (Molly) who acted Julie. Molly was similar with Julie, and both were beautiful. Stephens frantic pursue has not obtained the proper repayment. In his life, he did not have emotion with his wife. Afterward he discovered that his wife had the homosexuality tendency. At the same time, he was given the rejection from Molly. This time, Stephens spirit broke down. He lost the courage to live on. Finally and sadly, he chose the suicide, and left this world. Comparatively, Sarah must be much braver. If she is as weak as Stephen, then perhaps when her husband died ,she must have committed suicide. However, as a woman she is much braver than a man. She stays with the misery in life. She tries hard to be strong enough to live on. She never bends down to the uneasy life.2.1.3Her young heart to life and loveWhen she prepared the play Julie Varian, She was moved by Julie Varian deeply. She appreciated Julies talent and Julies will to pursue love. But she has more sympathy to Julie. In the novel, the writer express in the following words “She (Sarah) is strongly conquered by Julie. Not only she has been conquered by Julie, the entire messenger bird theatrical troupe was conquered by Julie.” Sarah was a woman full of the following quality: she has responsibility; she is good at reasoning thinking; she has maturity.In the play, Julie has fallen in love with Paulo, Ramey successively. However, at last she became the leading role of the tragedy. Sarah did not want to be similar to Julie in love, because she understood the restraint. When they rehearsed the play, Director Henry, actor Bill and Andrew, were all attracted by Sarah's onus charm in abundance. And they were all unable to avoid falling in love with her. In Sarahs eye, Bill was abundant and vital. He is like the bright sunlight. From the very beginning Sarah also thought that she might fall in love with this young people. Bill wrote a hot loving letter to her. Sarah was deeply shocked by this. It showed that Bill was attracted by her fantasy. But then she urged herself not to hold this idea in the mind. Because from the very beginning, when she saw Bill and Molly. When she see them hugging each other in one scene. And when Sarah hears other girls say that Bill was the most handsome guy under the camera. She suddenly felt not happy, and deeply lost. She started to think Molly may have fallen in love with Bill. Actually, Sarahs feeling to Bill showed that she was still a woman hoping for love. Though getting old, she had positive view to life. She still longed for love and longed for the youth and vigor.2.1.4 The wisdom showed by her in choosing loveAndrew was a sincere young man. He always fell in love with women who are nearly to be his mother. Andrew wrote an anonymous letter to Sarah, in order to express his hot feeling to Sarah. But Sarah has not placed him on her heart. Sarah knew him well. Actually, Andrew can not to be with her for a long-time just in the same place. Andrew's individuality has decided this point. That is to say, when Andrew is tired or familiar with her, he will leave. Farsighted Sarah saw all these very clearly, so she did not consider about her and Andrew. But as a woman, she still felt happy for Andrew's expression. But she knew clearly she did not fall in love with him. And she has not crashed into Andrews snares of love. Speaking of Sarah, love has more sincerity than impulsion. Sarah was sagacious and farsighted.
